More Than a Resume: This Is My Career Story
While my resume is available upon request, I want to share my full professional journey, including the factors that built my career and shaped the storyteller and strategist I am today. Over the past decade, I’ve worked at the intersection of communications and social impact, using writing, video, and digital media to uplift mission-driven organizations around the world. This is the story of how I got here.
Elevating Humanitarian and Human Rights Narratives
Then came a contract at the International Rescue Committee, where I learned the importance of telling stories about humanitarian crises. From the Ebola epidemic in West Africa to the conflict in Syria, I logged footage, prepped interviews, and edited videos that captured both devastation and resilience. Those months shaped me. They taught me how to handle complex stories with care.
In 2016, I stepped into a part-time communications position at PENCIL, running social media accounts, writing blogs, and photographing events highlighting the power of education and mentorship. At the same time, I interned at Human Rights Watch and pursued my master’s in International Affairs with a concentration in Media and Culture at The New School. Those years were intense, but deeply fulfilling.
At Human Rights Watch, I later moved from intern to Communications Associate. I edited press releases and op-eds, responded to media inquiries, and tracked global coverage. I learned how to edit with urgency, precision, and compassion—skills that would carry me through the next phase of my career.
A Foundation in Journalism and Media
It all started with an office badge and a notepad. In 2013, I found myself juggling internships at PBS’ POV and the Council on Foreign Relations, researching press clips, writing media alerts, and tweeting from behind the scenes. It was my first taste of storytelling for impact. I didn’t know it at the time, but those early days planted the seed for a career shaped by narrative, nuance, and a deep desire to make meaningful work.
Digital Storytelling and Strategic Content Creation
After finishing grad school in 2019, I joined SparkAction as a Content Engagement Specialist. There, I led social media management for LeaderStories, a storytelling platform showcasing the impact of leadership programs like the American Express Leadership Academy. I created content strategies, managed blog contributions, and analyzed what worked and what didn’t. Here, I began thinking more deeply about the power of storytelling, not just to inform but to inspire.
In 2020, I joined Komera, where I worked with a Rwanda-based team to craft stories that centered women and girls. From social media posts to blog features, I collaborated across time zones and cultures to share the soul of Komera’s work. I learned how to listen closely, write intentionally, and tell stories that honored both the subject and the reader.
Later, at TechnoServe, I managed the organization’s blog and coached internal writers to elevate their storytelling. I produced written and visual stories from across the globe, directed videographers, and ensured that every piece reflected the values of dignity and impact. I also worked on executive communications, refining the voices of those who guided the mission.
After graduating from Boston University with a degree in Journalism, I landed at The Documentary Group, assisting a team of award-winning producers and editors. I spent my days researching for The Homefront, archiving footage, and organizing production binders. Every task—no matter how small—was a part of something bigger, and I was proud to be a part of it.
Internal and External Communications for Social Impact
In 2023, I took a contract with Wounded Warrior Project. I focused on internal communications, writing leadership messages, formatting presentations, and developing SOPs.
Most recently, I served as Communications Manager at Every Mother Counts, supporting a website redesign, writing for the annual report, and helping bring to life one of the organization’s most meaningful events of the year—their Mother's Day gala. It was meaningful work, but I also realized something: I was ready to build something of my own.
Launching Thompson Davis Consulting
As the Founder of Thompson Davis Consulting, I use everything I’ve learned—every article, every video edit, every story told—to support nonprofits and mission-driven teams. I help organizations clarify their message, build meaningful content, and connect with the audiences who need to hear from them most.
I’ve spent over a decade writing, editing, researching, managing projects, and uplifting communities through content. And while the formats may have changed—tweets, newsletters, blog posts, social campaigns—the heart of my work has stayed the same: stories that make people feel something, spark connection, and move missions forward.
